2020 Year in Review-Thank you from Michelle Flynn

June marks the end of my year as President of the AMA-Toronto and what a journey it has been! When I think back to when I started at the AMA-Toronto five years ago as a committee volunteer in Membership, I had no idea how much I would get out of this commitment. The past two years as President-Elect then most recently as President, have been an incredible learning experience for me.  They strengthened me, developed my leadership and negotiation skills and are incredible tools I’ll take with in my career as a marketer, and in life.

As I look back on 2019/2020, I am extremely proud of what we accomplished as an organization. With the guidance of our dedicated advisory board and executive team, we established a strategic vision for AMA-Toronto. This vision was to support our community throughout their career to learn, connect and grow. To achieve this, we focused on 4 key areas that became the pillars of our strategic plan: Mentorship, Membership, Marketing Hall of Legends and Education.

Although COVID -19 shifted our plans, we still enjoyed a number of amazing virtual meetings and Zoom events. In addition, we officially announced our newest inductees last week, and we look forward to celebrating them in the coming months. As such, it’s an absolute pleasure to welcome the incoming President, Miglena Nikolova into the role. Miglena’s dedication to the chapter and incredible leadership skills makes her the perfect candidate to continue driving our strategic approach and ELEVATE our AMA-Toronto Chapter.

I will continue to remain committed. In my role as Past President, I will support Miglena and the Board with a focus on helping provide guidance and execute this year’s strategic plan.

In closing, my final word is Thank You. Thank you to our sponsors and partners who made this year a success and helped us achieve our goals. Thank you to our volunteers for your countless hours of dedication in delivering our programs and creating amazing content. Thank you to the Board for your support in helping drive a successful year and Thank You to the community for attending, supporting and participating. Our membership is the backbone of our community, and our volunteers allow us to keep everything going. The AMA-Toronto is 100% volunteer-run. None of the things we do would be possible without their time and dedication. You are why we do what we do.

Finally, I’d like to say thank you for this opportunity to learn, grow and challenge myself. I’ve become a better leader, marketer and person- and this is only the beginning. I look forward to seeing you at future events and watching the AMA-Toronto continue to blossom and grow. Until then, I won’t part with saying good-bye, but simply farewell- until we meet again.

Michelle
