Behind the Scenes: A Busy Start to 2023

Although AMA Toronto didn’t host any events in January, volunteers were working away behind the scenes to get ready for our February MNG event or to launch initiatives for our various programs. There’s lots of things happening and even more to look forward to.

Career Accelerator Mentoring is ramping up:

VP Craig Lund and the  Leadership Excellence team are taking applications for mentees for our next mentorship season starting in April. If you know anyone between the age of 24 and 35 who has at least 1 year of experience in marketing, advertising or communications, this is a tremendous way to boost their learning curve. Each mentee is matched with one of our experienced mentors who will work with them from April until January 2024. It’s also a great way to build a network with other young professionals and mentors.

Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends (CMHOL) is preparing to celebrate another year of Canadian marketing legends:

VP CMHOL, Jacob Kessler, and CMHOL Judging Chair, Nancy Marcus worked with an independent judging committee of senior marketers in early February to evaluate the industry’s nominations for this year’s legends and Marketer On The Rise and choose the inductees. Our amazing winners will be announced soon and celebrated at a gala in the spring. Stay tuned. Special opportunity: there’s still sponsorship opportunities available for this amazing program and upcoming gala

Don’t miss our Legendary Leadership Event on March 2:

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the CMHOL team led by Jacob Kessler and Events team led by VP Dawn Becker, are hosting a panel discussion with female legends and leaders, Brenda Pritchard, Edie Weiss, Judy John and Marketer on the Rise, Marie Chevrier Schwartz. It should be an enlightening discussion.

MNG Events are a great way to network with the marketing community

MNG Director, Shalini Jerath, plans and executes these regularly scheduled events for our community. They are free for AMA members and volunteers and available to non-members for a nominal fee. Our sold-out Feb 13 event featured speakers on how marketers need to include accessibility as a priority in their planning. Don’t forget to save the date for our next MNG event on March 29 which will feature Jessica Robinson, Content Lead for the Globe and Mail’s Content Studio.

Planning for AMA Toronto’s next fiscal has begun

Time flies and our next fiscal will start July 1st. In order to hit the ground running, President-Elect, Santo Ligotti, has been working with current President, Barbara Boyd and the Board to determine our Board for next year. Each year many board members remain but some also leave. Watch for the email that will announce our new Board Slate for election.

January Rockstars

Congratulations to our January 2023 Rockstar: Shalini Jerath Director MNG Events!

Shalini Jerath
Director MNG Events

Since Shalini joined AMA Toronto’s volunteer ranks in 2021, she has become an essential part of the MNG (Marketing Networking Group) events team and now directs the team which hosts multiple events each year.

In February Shalini led the charge for a very interesting event teaching marketers how to make marketing more inclusive for people with disabilities. She dealt with all aspects of the event, organizing the venue, sponsor, speakers and moderating the panel discussion. It was a sold-out and very enlightening event.

Shalini is a Marketing Manager at Level Access. She has more than 15 years experience internationally and in Canada in marketing and sales.
