Behind the Scenes: Finishing 2021 with a Flourish

We thank all our volunteers for their energy and commitment during the challenging times of 2021. Thanks to our volunteer community we had a very successful year and finished December on a high note.

Our Fall PR efforts led by VP Rob MacLean and the PR team garnered some great profile for our programs. This included media attention and interviews for our joint publishing effort with author Alan Middleton PhD of Mentorship Matters: Now More Than Ever! This book is a valuable guide to mentorship and should be on everyone’s reading list. It’s available through Amazon Books as either a paperback or e-book.

We also launched the call for nominations for our next group of Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends (CMHOL) Legends and Marketer On the Rise. VP CMHOL Jacob Kessler and volunteer Judging Chair and past Legend Nancy Marcus, have pulled together a great panel of industry judges and look forward to receiving your nominations. Take a few minutes to nominate people who have made a difference in our marketing and business community.

We hosted our annual and always amazing Agency Panel on December 9th. Advisory Council volunteer, Eric Tang, EVP, Managing Director of Porter Novelli Canada, facilitated an insightful discussion of issues facing the agency world with Carina De Blois President of Ogilvy New York, Lewise Hiltz VP of Digital Transformation for KPI Digital Solutions, Mo Dezyanian President of Empathy Inc and Sean Stanleigh Head of Globe Content Studio for The Globe and Mail. A big shout-out to both VP Finance Matt Chong who initiated this annual event more than 5 years ago and VP Digital Marketing Christy Varicat who stepped up to create another great event this year. And we can’t forget to give kudos to the amazing behind the scenes team comprised of Events, Marcom, and Partnership/Sponsorship volunteers led by Meerah Jayakumar. It truly takes a volunteer village to pull this event together.

On December 15th, AMA members, volunteers and guests attended a fun and enlightening MNG event (Member Networking Group) hosted by our partner Mission Hill Winery. We heard some very interesting stories about the winery and I certainly added some new wines to my favourites list after that event. Many thanks to Directors Olga Pigeon and Vishal Tendulkar and the MNG team who brought us a variety of great content and networking events to AMA members through 2021.

Volunteers like our December Rockstars, help AMA Toronto flourish and continue to provide value to our marketing community. Thank you!

Elvina Bulatova: Manager Public Relations

Elvina, joined the PR team in the Fall and has been influential in AMA’s successful roll-out of Alan Middleton’s new book Mentorship Matters. Her research, persistence, and journalistic perspective has brought media attention and profile to this initiative.

Elvina is the Marketing and Communications Manager at GP Joule North America, operating in the solar/renewable/sustainable energy sector. She has a Bachelor in International Journalism and a Masters in Policy.

Meerah Jayakumar: Director Events

Meerah is a true event professional and two-time Rockstar. She was the driving force behind the success of two of our biggest events in 2021: the Canada’s Hall of Legends gala in April and our popular annual Agency Panel in December. She’s a master at handling the details of complex events, works collaboratively with other AMA teams and ensures that panelists, speakers and others are engaged.

Meerah is the Event Strategist at Bond Brand Loyalty and has a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies.

Sonika Kamra: Director Email Marketing

Sonika joined our MarCom team in March, 2021. Her dedication and enthusiasm has made our team more agile. Sonika was instrumental this summer in working with our Strategy and Insights team and AMA partner Q One Digital to deploy our annual member survey. This fall, she quickly prepared and deployed emails for numerous initiatives. Prior to taking on her current role, Sonika volunteered as Account Manager Signature Events.

Sonika is the Digital Marketing Manager for Enghouse Interactive and has a MBA in Marketing and Sales.
