September is a busy month for AMA Toronto volunteers. After a summer spent developing our strategic plans, we return to executing our traditional programs and launching some new initiatives.

The Mentorship team led by Craig Lund is preparing to launch the 12th year of Mentor Exchange, sponsored by Scotiabank. This very successful program requires a lot of effort: acquiring and finalizing mentee registrations and mentors, matching mentees with mentors and planning the launch event and the education events for both mentors and mentees offered through Schulich Executive Education Centre. This year we’re also launching a new program in Executive Coaching.

In July, Volunteer team members Jermaine Wellington and Akhil Tharaney launched a new series of informal lunchtime meet-ups for volunteers called “Ask Us Anything” events. Each month we feature several board members who speak informally about their AMA roles and programs, answer questions and listen to suggestions from our attendees. It’s a great opportunity for our volunteers to meet board members and volunteers from across our 12 teams, learn more about the multitude of programs that AMA Toronto offers and to share their ideas.

To date, “Ask Us Anything” events have triggered interesting discussions with Tina Portillo about this year’s chapter priorities, Craig Lund about mentorship, Christy Varicat about our new website and Vincent Mok about our internal technologies. In September, volunteers will learn more about our largest team, Marcom, and their range of activities from VPs Santo Ligotti and Wendy Greenwood.

Other teams are launching new initiatives as well. Earlier in 2021 our Partnership team launched AMA Toronto’s new Career Centre. It’s a welcome new service for both job seekers and companies looking to hire marketing talent: https://ama-toronto.careerwebsite.com/

Meet our August Rockstars

AMA Toronto attracts a wide variety of aspiring and inspiring leaders. Our monthly Rockstars represent some of the talented volunteers who have major impact on our programs and our community. Thank you for your many contributions!

Sayuri Tanaka: Event Manager

Sayuri has become a great asset to the Events team. She worked closely with the team on the logistics for one of our most important events, the June CMO Panel. As part of her role, she managed the registration site as well as the virtual platform. Sayuri has also recently volunteered her time with the AMA Career Centre “Career Cafe” event that took place in late August. She has been a great source of ideas for our virtual events and a talented addition to the AMA Toronto team.

Tarik El Assal: Manager Membership Group Buys

Since joining AMA Toronto, Tarik has shown a willingness to step up and take ownership of the Group Buy process. He is now acting as the end-to-end owner for all member group buy needs, including processing, onboarding, reporting and troubleshooting. His helpful demeanour and overall positivity are a great asset to the Membership team and the overall AMA community.

Could you be a future Rockstar in our volunteer community? We’re currently looking for talented marketers to join our Partnership/Sponsorship and Membership teams. If you’d like to learn more, please contact me at [email protected]
