February 4: Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends Jury Day
The Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends team started preparing for February’s Jury Day in the fall. The process included selecting a jury of business experts and gathering nominations for the Legends honour and the Marketer On the Rise award. Once nominations were complete, the team worked to gather and compile information on more than 140 nominees. This information was culled and curated to help the jury evaluate prospective winners and select this year’s inductees. Many thanks to Jury Chair Arthur Fleischmann of WPP, our 13 volunteer jury members and Jacob Kessler, VP & Steward Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends for a successful day. And special thanks to CMHOL team members and additional volunteers who helped to organize the day and the required materials: Akshay Subramaniam Raju, Ben Hudson, Kartikay Joshi, Miglena Nikolova, Soumya Ganesh and Tam Nguyen.Â
February 21: “Delivering on Brand Promise: A Legendary Leadership Series Event
On Wednesday, February 21st the AMA community had the privilege to attend and participate in a virtual event featuring the wisdom of three outstanding female marketers. Sharifa Khan Founder and CEO of Balmoral Multicultural Marketing, Lisa Lisson SVP of FedEx Express and Marie Chevrier Schwartz Founder and CEO of Sampler. Their stories and perspectives were inspiring and enlightening. Thank you to the volunteers who bring such amazing events to our community: Jacob Kessler VP & Steward CMHOL, Dawn Becker VP Events, Shalini Jerath AVP Events, Shreyansi Rohatgi Manager Events and other Events team and Marcom team volunteers who worked behind the scenes to organize and promote the event to our community.Â

AMAzing Rockstars
AMA Toronto has many volunteers at all levels who learn and demonstrate leadership as part of their volunteer experience. This month we celebrate four Rockstars who provide value to our teams and the AMA community. Congratulations Duo Ma, Jeff Powell, Louise Taylor and Michael Thede.
Duo Ma
Director Volunteer Onboarding
Duo is always willing to enthusiastically lend a hand to AMA Toronto and her team. She’s full of energy and ideas and has been recently promoted to Director Volunteer Onboarding and will be taking on an expanded role in this area. Currently she’s been very busy providing a large number of new volunteers with AMA emails and shared drive access as well as adding them to our volunteer lists. Duo also continues to volunteer her excellent photography skills to AMA Toronto events. Thank you Duo!
Duo is a Marketing and Trade Show Coordinator for Top Grade Molds. She has her Masters in Marketing from Schulich School of Business.
Jeff Powell
Video & Podcast Producer
Jeff has been a long-term volunteer with AMA Toronto. Although he is currently on a hiatus, Jeff stepped in to produce our Agency Panel videos. He produced all the vital slides/slates and created the needed designs. He provided valuable feedback on the video productions and has also offered to step in and help with the YouTube postings. Thank you Jeff!
Jeff has more than 17 years digital marketing experience. He currently is Senior Marketing Manager, Partner Programs at Securian.
Louise Taylor
AVP Volunteers
Louise continues to make her mark at AMA Toronto. In 2024, she has already co-led a virtual volunteer-only event for AMA Toronto volunteers with Director Volunteers, Shelley Hull. She also facilitated a Fascinate assessment session for senior volunteers at our mid-year planning session. The leadership team has certainly learned a lot from those personal communications strength assessments. She is also working on a new email signature for volunteers to use as well working with Duo to plan the upcoming April volunteer thank you campaign. Thank you Louise!
Louise has 30 years of experience in marketing. She is currently the CEO of Firefly Effect where she provides brand and marketing strategy and consultation as well as coaching for CEOs, entrepreneurs and founders. She also acts as a fractional CMO for small to medium sized companies.
Michael Thede
PR Manager & Senior Writer
Since recently joining AMA Toronto, Michael has earned his wings delivering excellent, on-time writing and PR support for the Canada’s Marketing Hall of Legends program. He’s also a regular attendee and supporter for AMA events. Thank you for your many contributions Michael!
Michael recently relocated to Toronto after more than 20 years in Asia where he was responsible for leading international communications at a business school in Shanghai. He has also worked as a writer and editor for brands such as Disney, Porsche and more. Michael has a BA in Film Studies & Philosophy from Western University and is a graduate of the Writing for Film & TV program at Vancouver Film School.
