Mark Sherman is the founder of Media Experts and one of Canada’s most influential pioneers in modern media planning. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, he transformed a bold entrepreneurial vision into the country’s largest independent media agency—setting new standards for strategic innovation, digital leadership, and client-centric excellence.

Mark launched Media Experts in Montreal in 1981 at the age of twenty-five, recognizing an untapped opportunity to elevate media as a strategic discipline at a time when full-service creative agencies dominated the landscape. As sole shareholder from 1987 onward, he built a national powerhouse with offices in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, powered by a culture of curiosity, accountability, and relentless pursuit of results.

Under his leadership, Media Experts consistently challenged industry norms. Mark championed a media-agnostic, ROI-driven philosophy long before it became common practice. When global agencies unbundled their media departments in the 1990s, they validated the independent model he had helped pioneer years earlier.

At the turn of the century, as digital media reshaped the global marketing ecosystem, Mark and his team were uniquely prepared. Media Experts became the first media agency in Canada to integrate search engine marketing, earn Google certification, partner with Facebook, establish a programmatic trading desk, and build real-time performance dashboards. The agency’s “Tradigital Thinking” approach—integrating technology, data, and offline and online media strategy—set a new benchmark for transparency and innovation.

These accomplishments earned Media Experts multiple national accolades, including five Strategy Magazine Media Agency of the Year podium finishes in seven years, Marketing Magazine’s Agency of the Year in 2010, and Media Director of the Year for Mark in 2011. The agency’s work received domestic and international recognition across marquee brands such as BMW/MINI, Bell, WestJet, TD Bank, Interac, and Bombardier.

In 2015, The Interpublic Group (IPG) acquired a majority stake in Media Experts, completing full acquisition in 2020 at a valuation exceeding $100 million—underscoring the enduring strength and scale of the organization Mark built.

Mark has credited his success to timeless guidance from his father, Gus, himself a legendary Canadian costume jewellery manufacturer: “Customer is King and Staff is Queen. Take care of both and success follows.” This philosophy shaped the culture of Media Experts and solidified Mark’s reputation as an inspiring leader committed to the growth, well-being, and integrity of his team and clients.
